I would like to thank the following researchers for a lot of ourCrecelius history; Myrna Lashbrook-May, Evelyn Harper Jackson, LoriCrecelius Benham, Eleanor and publication by Marcus Kreckel, HellmuthGenisicke, website - "http://www.gemuendenonline.de/gm_gall/gm_gall.html". If you have a minute look atthe pictures on the above mentioned website, they are great.
Our research showed Otto Rudolph Crecelius being born in Kirberg,Germany about 1718, another researcher has him born 1728 inReichelsheim Wetterau, Nassau, Germany and puts his death at 59 years ofage. His first wife Anna Margareta Zobrodt was born 12-02-1727 inCronenberg, Germany and was only 13 years old when they married. OttoRudolph was about 22 years old when he married Anna, on 13th of January,1750 in Reichelsheim, Germany. Anna Margareta was the daughter of JohannLudwig Zobrodt. Anna was 29 years 10 months when she died on 01-29-1757.On 07-09-1759 in Reichelsheim, Germany. Otto (age 31) married his secondwife Anna Ursula Gerlach. Anna was the daughter of Johann Adam Gerlach(deceased), citizen of Cronenberg, Germany.
Otto left Germany for America, with his second wife and childrenafter 07-07-1764. Otto Rudolph a widower married for the third time on02-04-1766 at St. Michael's and Zion German Lutheran Church inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania to Marie Elizabetha Diederle who was only 13years old and born in Germany. (per PA Archive, Series 2, Vol. 9, page326). The first record in America is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania withthe recorded baptism of Anna Magdelene Crecelius. This is child of thirdwife and Otto, the record states Anna Madalene Crecelius born 03-30-1765,christened 04-03-1765 at St. Michael's and Zion German Lutheran Church,Philadelphia, PA. This family is recorded living in Frederick County,Maryland from 1767 until 1772.
Otto Rudolph Crecelius served in the Revolutionary War from March1777 until 07-01-1782. Per service reference to payroll of CaptainPhilip Shrawder's Ranger North Hampton Company from PA during 02-10-1781through 07-01-1782. In 1782 the following references are listed:
Sargeant Rudolph Crecelius (PA Archive, Series 5, Vol. 8 page 580)
Note: Many researchers refer to Sergeant Adolph Rudolph Cysillusand Trumpet Major Adolph Crecelius as possibly being our Otto RudolphCrecelius; however, it is doubtful since our Otto died about 1787 and theSergeant/Trumpet Major was still alive in 1794. I include the referencesbelow only for clarification:
o Sergeant Adolph Rudolph Crysillus (PA Archive, Series 3, Vol 3,page 623/726)
-- entitled to 250 acres Donation Lands
o Trumpet Major Adolph Crecelius (PA Archive, Series 5, Vol 3,page 882)
- Col. Lee's Legion Dragoons depreciation pay. Thisorganization distinguished itself in the South fighting Loyalistin North Caroline", (PA Archive, Series 5, Vol 3. page 891). More research is being done on these service records. Otto Rudolph had ason via Maria Elisabetha Diederle name Rudoph Isaac Crecelius. We findIsaac, listed as Criscillis on some documents. Some suspect the Sargeantlisted is Otto's son.
Otto Rudolph Crecelius's line is not longer recognized by the DAR.They need further proof that Adolph and Rudolph are the same person.11-11-2002, chapter code # 3-005-TN states: It appears that AdolphCrysillus/Creselius/Crysilius of Northhampton, PA, is not Otto Rudolph, your ancestor. There is documentation, however, which shows an OttoRudolph living in Loudoun County, VA in 1770 -71. This corroborates thefamily history. The descendants of Johann Christophal Crecelius1652-bef.1724, p. 13, which states that the family left Pennsylvaniabefore 1770. This family history also mentions the 1782 and 1783 taxlists for Rockingham Co., VA, as proof of his residence there. We do nothave those records in our resources. You may want to check in RockinghamCo., VA for service for him. If service cannot be found in Virginia forOtto Rudolph, an alternative would be to try a substitute ancestor inyour approach to membership to the National Society Daughters of theAmerican Revolution.
