According to a letter written by his son William, William Cheney wasraised in or near Irvine, Estill County, Ky. He came from Irvine toRichmond, Madison County in 1830. The letter says that the first sixchildren were born in Richmond, the family moved to the country inJanuary, 1864, and the last four children were born there. According tothe birth dates of the children, however, there were seven children bornby January, 1864, so possibly only the last three were born after thefamily moved away from Richmond.
