I contacted Dave Weaver after reading one of his posts. Very rarely dowe find anyone from our Sanders line. Dave invited me to join his site
which I did. However, having done that, I'm now not at all sure how touse it -- ha, ha. So I thought I'd just contact you (the other
members) via email and offer to help in anyway I can -- and of course toask if you would be so kind to share any of your data with me. Most of
the data we find started with us and has just gone full circle. Soanything you might have, even if its just family lore type stuff, wouldbe most
appreciated. Always looking for a lead to James and Ellen -- they kepta low profile like no one else.

Dave Sanders in Dry Ridge, KY and I (in Dover, DE) are the only two folksI know of that are actively reseaching this family (descendants of
James Sanders and Elinor McClurkin). And worse, there are only a handfull of descendants that have any interest in this stuff at all. So itis
indeed a thrill anytime we run across folks like you all -- again, itdoesn't happen often!!!

My line is James Sanders, David, Peter F., Charles W., to my Dad CurtisM. Sanders. Aforementioned Dave Sanders' (friend/cousin) line is
through Peter F.'s brother, David Columbus, and his son Alpha Mennonwhere it gets really tangled.

A lot of our original info comes from my senior 1st cousin Irene Cook whospent several decades of pre-internet research on our family.
Without her work we would be lost. Our knowledge of James Sanders andEllen/Elinor McClurkin is almost soley from an ancient family
historian of sorts -- Sarah Sanders, grand daughter of David and Rebecca.However, everything so far that Sarah has left has proven to be true
(except for Giles). I waste most of my time trying to track down Jamesand Elinor. I now know more about SC and the McClurkins than I ever
wanted to know -- ha, ha. But I still can't nail them down. I'mresonably confident I have them in 1810 York Dist./Co., SC and probablyin 1800,
also in York. But beyond that, nothing solid. James could be from anyof several Sanders lines. Elinor is most likely the daughter of James
McClurkin Jr. -- that by process of elimination. She just does not fitanywhere else if current semi-reliable McClurkin research is assumed tobe
reasonably correct. Unfortunately nothing is known of James McClurkinJr., other than he had children according to his father's 1794 will --but
no names known. My hunch is that James Jr. was either killed in Rev Waror right after its end -- and may have been on the losing side. It
appears now that his sister, the original Elinor McClurkin was marriedfirst to William Young who was a British Patriot. Also, James Jr'sclosest
McClurkin neighbor was Richard McClurkin who all evidence suggests wasalso on wrong side and paid the going price at the end of Rev War
-- murdered. But all falls in category of educated speculation -- ha,ha.

Be happy to share anything and everything we have. Pasted below a 3generation bare-bones report. But will be glad to email you ged file or
more complete book reports. Also have a few pics. Most pertinent wouldbe portraits of David Sanders and Rebecca Renfro -- and "the house
where Rebecca was born". Portraits are excellent quality, while oldhouse (log cabin) pic is poor quality, but absolutely fascinating. Justlet me
know your pleasure. I sent this stuff to Dave Weaver earlier but haven'theard back from him, so don't know if he received it or not. He may
have already passed it on to you all.

I live just south of Dover, DE where the USAF brought me in 1974 --married a local girl, so now I can never leave DE. I was born and raisedin
Harrison Co., KY. My Dad was born and raised in Jessamine and playedfootball at UK back in the early 20's (1921 -24). Nice to meet you all.

PS; just so no one is confused, Dave Weaver mentioned something aboutIndians and lost tribes of Israel in same paragraph where he
announced my joining the group. That is way over my head and has nothingto do with anything I know. Although I hear an occasional rumor
of some unknown Indian ancestry, I do not know of any and for life of me,can not imagine who it might be. On Ben Franklin's branch we do
have Albert David who married Lizzie Lowry (dau of Wm Lowry and LucindaTaylor). Some of their descendants claim a strong Indian ancestry
through the Lowrys, but I know little as to how the Lowry/Indian link wasmade. But thats it for Indian linkage. Would love to find one
though since I have studied them for several decades -- one of my manyuseless hobbies -- useless according to my wife.

The truncated tree below represents the children of James andEllen/Elinor -- those that we know of. We know there was at least onemore male
child born in era of David and Ausburn. And also possibly another malechild born about time James vanished in 1820/1821. We have no idea
who these two guys might be.

Ellen McClurkin was born in 1780 in South Carolina. James Sanders andEllen McClurkin had the following children:

She was married to James Hagan (son of Hugh Hagan Jr. and Jean Hamilton)on March 9, 1826 in Madison County, KY. James Hagan was born
on October 11, 1797. He died on November 7, 1869 in Madison Co., KY. Hewas buried in Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Madison Co., KY.
Cynthia Sanders and James Hagan had the following children:

i. William M. Hagan (born on December 1, 1826).
ii. John Campbell Hagan (born on July 17, 1828).
iii. James Hagan (born on November 9, 1831).

3. David Sanders was born on September 23, 1803 in South Carolina. Hedied on February 21, 1893 in Jessamine County, Kentucky. He was
buried on Family farm, Taylor Ridge Road, Mt. Lebanon, Kentucky.

He was married to Rebeckah Renfro (daughter of Peter Renfro Jr. andJudith Land) on May 12, 1835 in Madison County, Kentucky. Rebeckah
Renfro was born on December 8, 1817 in Madison County, Kentucky. Shedied on September 14, 1886 in Jessamine County, Kentucky. She
was buried in Sanders Cemetary, Taylor Ridge Rd., Jessamine Co, Ky.David Sanders and Rebeckah Renfro had the following children:

i. Olivia Jane Sanders (born on July 21, 1837).

Emily Mildred Renfro was born on October 11, 1824 in Kentucky. She diedon April 29, 1915 in Madison County, Kentucky. She was buried in
Friendship Church Graveyard, Madison County, KY. Ausburn Sanders andEmily Mildred Renfro had the following children:

He was married to Elizabeth Colvin (daughter of Benjamin Colvin Sr. andNancy P. Coleman) on May 6, 1834 in Boone County, Missouri.
Elizabeth Colvin was born about 1811 in Culpeper Co., VA. She was buriedin Nashville Baptist Church Cemetery, Cedar Township, Boone
County, Missouri. Drury Sanders and Elizabeth Colvin had the followingchildren:

Elizabeth Payne was previously married to Thomas Dickey who was bornabout 1813 in Knox Co., KY. He died about January 1842 in Knox Co.,

He stated that his great great grandfather was John Chaney, and John'sson William is also his ancestor, as well as the Bussler's. He includedFamily Group Sheets on the families of John & Gemima (Brinkley) Chaney,William & Nancy (Keene) Chaney, James & Margaret (Gerrard) Chaney. Allthis informnation I copied into my data.

John's grandson William, son of William, wrote a letter about his family.In it he says that John & Jemima came from Virginia, where John's brothersettled. He then goes on to say that his father William always told himthat there were three brothers from Germany. One settled in Maryland, onein North Carolina, one in Virginia, but he doesn't say which was hisgrandfather. He says his grandmother's name was Gemima Brinkley and hisgrandfather's mother was named Hornbuckle. He says that his grandparentsJohn & Jemima both lived to be near 100 years old and died near Irvine,Estill County. I have a copy of a hand copy of the letter, it is verydifficult to decipher.

We are dealing with two genetically distinct Cobb patriarchal lineagesthat
predate Plymouth colony that both have long established ties to CountyKent.
(Aside from eight or more other Cobb patriarchal lines with two or more
genetic study participants, and a few more that have yet to connect with
genetic matches.)

The lineage of "Henry the Elder", born 1596, patriarch of the "Barnstable
Cobbs", is a perfect 26/26 genetic match with a line connected withCounty
Kent at least 250 years. This Cobb line has multiple descendants throughthe
US south as well as those associated with Massachusetts. As there is a
perfect trans-Atlantic genetic match, it appears that this biologically
related direct paternal line goes back at least to a most recent common
ancestor, likely in the 1500's, of both Henry the Elder and the presentday
County Kent descendants in England whom they genetically match perfectly.

Meanwhile the Ambrose Cobb line and their newly connected genetic matchwith
very very long established County Kent ancestry are in the same position.A
most recent common ancestor of these related US and County Kent, England
branches also likely was born in the 1500's.

Why these two Cobb lineages, each in existence over 500 years, came to be
biologically, genetically distinct (genetically distinct direct male
ancestors), is a 16th century (or earlier) mystery for hypothecation and
research.

The genetic matches among the nine Henry the Elder/County Kent study
participants include fewer mutations than there are among the fifteen
Ambrose/County Kent group, leading me to speculate the Cobb paternal lineof
Ambrose is older and hence has had a longer chance to mutate randomly.
That's just a speculation. Again, both direct paternal lines are
genetically consistent over 500+ years - and the answer to this mystery
currently is buried in time. They well may always have been "part of the
same family" - but a different biological papa clearly was involved once
upon a time long long ago - which very well may not have been at all
problematical at the time, depending on circumstances.
