"Immediately after the crucifixion, the Jews sought to arrestJoseph, Nicodemus and others...(he) escaped ... went to Philip to betaught, and with son, Josephus, was baptized by him." (Smithett).

Cardinal Baronius ...Curator fo the famous VaticanLibrary...quoting from his ECCLESIASTICAL ANNALS referring to the yearA.D. 36:

"In that year the party mentioned was exposed to the sea in a vesselwithout sails and without oars. The vessel drifted finally to Marseilles(France) and they were saved. From Marseilles, Joseph and his companypassed into Britain..." (Jowett p.32-33).

Cressy, The Benedictine, tells us that St. Joseph died inGlastonbury, 27 Jul A.D. 82." (Smithett, p.111).

Joseph's descendants became ancestors of some illustrious Kings andPrinces, including "Old King Cole" and the famous King Arthur of theRound Table. (Albert F. Schmuhl, THE ROYAL LINE).

The monk Hugh Paulinus de Cressy, writing during the seventeenthcentury speaks of the first century church in Britain. It was he who gaveus the date of St. Joseph's death, July 27 A.D. 82, and his coming inthese words,

"Now the most eminent of the primitive disciples, and who contributedmost to this heavenly building was St.Joseph of Arimathea, and eleven ofhis companions with him, among whom is reckoned his son of his own name."

He tells us that Britain "received the beams of the Sun ofRighteousness before many other countries nearer approaching to the placewhere He first rose".

Cressy spent many years studying and writing in France. It ispossible that French church documents may have contained some of theinformation which he passes on to us, the foundations of churches in bothcountries being closely linked together. Cressy quotes freely from the Jesuit, Michael Alford, who wrote hisANNALES ECCLESIAE BRITANNICAE a little before. He claimed "The ChristianReligion began in Britain within fifty years of Christ's Ascension."
